Well, it seems the middle school in my town has issued a pamphlet to parents saying that they shouldn't let their children listen to the following bands:
Pink Floyd
ACDC
Ozzy/Black Sabbath
Led Zeppelin

The only rap artist listed was Eminem. Now, these are bands that middle school student's parents would probably have grown up listening to probably still listen to, yet the school is warning them to not let their children listen to it, whereas, 50 Cent and the b!tches and hos are still acceptable??

FUK THAT! Those are some of the most influental bands of all time. You can't listen to the legends, but the sh!t today is fine.

(Just needed to vent)

His name was on the list. I just was upset about the fact that legends were on there too. And the fact that it was all rock bands listed as if rap isn't just as or even more offensive. Its like they went back to be like an old 70s Christian School that would forbid all rock music. The thing is, if their gonna state all kinds of "evil" music, then they should be list pretty much everything with a deeper message behind it. Either that or they shouldn't say a fukin thing, either way I wouldn't obey that. I'm in the high school for one thing, and when I told my family about it we had a great laugh about how stupid the school systems here are. I'll probably go down to the halls of the Middle School and blast Suicide Solution by Ozzy just to p!ss em off.

Well,I haveta say,Tim,that your PTA should all pull their heads outta theirs asses and actually see that rock is mostly about feelings and expression, when most rap is like this:
'yo yo yo,G,I was shot in da hood cause I didn't pay my $2 ho,and I kicked her ouuta my esco',With my b1tches and mah gunsyo yo yo,you better run,son.G-G-G-G-U-NIT!'
~Made by me to show that anyone can rap,and that it still sucks and has much more profanity than rock
(It's 8 A.M.,ya expect something Grammy worthy,or something?)

With that,I will quote the Chorus and Bridge from 'Ohio Is For Lovers' by Hawthorne Heights:

'And I can't make it on my own(And I can't make it own my own)/Because my heart is in Ohio/So cut my wrists and black my eyes(Cut my wrists and black my eyes)/So I can fall asleep tonight/Or die../Because you kill me/You Know You do/You Kill me well/you like it too/And I can tell/You'll never stop until/my final breath is gone'

So,while there is some reference to violence in the 2nd song,it actually only represents something.

Put that up your pipe, and smoke it,friggin' hypocritcical PTA

its funny how you think your cool and all trying to diss rap/hip-hop

first of all, just to stay on topic, that sucks about your town, they had probably listened to one or two bad songs and banned the band all together, while adults dont initially listen to rap music, so they'll probably not know about artists like 50 cent and jadakiss

second, man from the moon, who the **** are you ****tin with your lame ass weak rhymes? rap isnt all pimp the hoes and such, thats something called Gangsta rap im getting sick of all these rap stereotypes that makes you look like a pimp cause you like that genre of music, and tell me, rock artists dont talk about girls and taking drugs???? if you say know, your a ****ing cunt and you must die

Eh,people have their own opinions,I suppose

And,alot of times,Bands will talk about girls and taking drugs, but, most of the time, you won't hear something like,'I'm gonna f*ck that whore' in rock. Alot of times, the song will about breaking up with the girl,or sobbing on and on about how she/he made teh lead singer happy

On teh drugs.Yes,alot of times, artists(In both genres) do and write about drugs.Alot of times, you'll hear rappers talking about doing drugs for the sake of doing drugs.Rock artists, majority of teh time,if they do sing about drugs, alotta times it to cope with depression.

Meh
Whatever
(And,like I said,I made that little rap schtick at 8 A.M.,you expect me to win a grammy?)

-no, they dont do it for the sake of doing drugs, so no

Alot of times, the song will about breaking up with the girl,or sobbing on and on about how she/he made teh lead singer happy
-a lot of rap songs are love songs, which are EXACTLY like rock songs, you dont see rappers sob over a girl because it shows weakness, and that would ruin reputation

Eh,people have their own opinions,I suppose
- i dont see rappers diss rock on a daily basis

(And,like I said,I made that little rap schtick at 8 A.M.,you expect me to win a grammy?)
-no, but you should think of something more intelligent if you want to make fun of someone, good job *thumbs up*

First, to comment on thread topic. Load of crap, nothing else needs to be said about that.

Now, on to other things. I don't hate Rap, but it's rarely good, and it's really not music. It's rhyming and talking fast. Not very often does a rap have actually intruments being played. Some Rap is good, but I don't listen to it because I don't enjoy the idea of listening to hours of crap to hear a few good songs.

Rock, on the other hand, is actually music. It displays more talent than rhyming and talking. And MFTM is right, it doesn't talk about sex in every other song like Rap does.

I'm not going to get started on a Rock vs Rap debate. I got into one of those in a thread once with Chaoskid and Evil Bakura...I think Yami217 was there too. It didnt end very nicely.

But I will say that your school system should rot in hell Sickness.

Another sign of how people can be so overprotective....if the kids want to listen to Ozzy, Pink Floyd, etc. let them. Why should your school care anyway? It's not like the school system lives with the kids they teach.

When it comes to being offensive, rap can be just as offensive as rock. It depends on who you are and what you consider "offensive" (personally, I don't like rap).

Don't turn this into a rock vs. rap debate, (make another thread for that) but I wasn't ripping on music, I just think its stupid how there are far more controversal things. Pink Floyd and Ozzy may have been taboo for the 70s, but this is the age of Eminem and other controversal artists. And, although my rap selection is very limited, some of it is good. Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio still kicks ass.

Pyromaniak

now how stupid is that, how much you want to bet that the people who issued the pamphlet listened to those bands back in the day (except for the modern day ones of course)

Hmmm, this is a very interesting topic, Those are good bands the roots for most rock music. Im not sure who else was on the list but some lyrics from bands such as slipknot and others make the lyrics for those bands look well "Clean" For example "Im going to slit your throat and fu** the wound" What Im trying to say is I agree with everyone on this, there are a lot of things worse than the "roots of Rock" (When i say worse i mean in an explict way, I like Slipknot, Manson, ect)

Now why are they targeting Rock mostly and not much Rap? Well rock has always been pictured as "Evil" and such to a few. A few think all rock is "Suicidal, Evil, Satanic, Gothic" but we know it is not. Rock is stereo typed as much as Rap is with the whole "Pimps and whores thing" I may not like Rap much but mostly because it is not my style, although I do like a few songs here and there such as Pastor Tory's Vica Versa.

Rock is a target expecialy in schools because It is linked to the stereo types of people such as "Goth Kids". Athought anyone that is confused can come in and shoot up a school or give bomb threats or worse it has always and will aways be linked to those the school doesnt understand. Even though many of the mishaps at schools are caused more from abused and mistreated Kids by parents and or peers, It is still linked to music and people are scared of what they dont understand more than they are of anything else.

So what should you do well I would just keep listening to what I want to listen to and just ignore anyone that says otherwise. There is no point in giving them more reasons to attack the type of music you like.

Yami217

i never got why they did that, quoting chris rock:

"What the hell is wrong with these white kids shooting up the school? The Trenchcoat Mafia?! 'No one would play with us, We had no friends.' Hey, I saw the yearbook picture. It was six of 'em! I didn't have six friends in high school. I don't have six friends now! That's 3-on-3 with a half-court."

well... not hated by the children the list is affected by

i think that eminem SHOULD be allowed, not because hes a rapper, because he's one of the few rappers that critique the government, not all *****es and hoes

i can see were both sides are coming from, i like eminem personaly, or i used to, his new stuff has gone a little down hill. but anyway, i think that rock and rap can be just as offensive and have just as deep a meaning as eachother. the fact that alot of the new rap is, as you say, "gangsta rap" cant be blamed on the majority, there are some horible rock and horible rap, just gotta find what ya like in each and combine.

and on the thread topic, i would also walk in with the music blasting, knowing me i would bring in a big system piece by piece and then blast it so all could hear, but when your listening to it on a headset from MP3 or CD player, why the hell should they care? they dont have to listen to it all the time, and they should all go ****off and die or figure out what is the true meaning of the songs, all they hear is the words and say "THATS HORIBLE!" but almost all songs have a deeper meaning ment to be seen, as a fellew writer (meaning they write lyrics and i write a majority of things) i know that there is almost always a deeper meaning, that is all i have to say.

Well now, it seems the Pope (the new one, benedict or something) had quoted those bands as being evil and turning children into disallusioned killers.

Now, if the scholl is issueing the pamphlet on what the Pope said, couldn't that cause a debate over seperation of church and state?

Wani

Eh. Benedict is an idiot. Just because music is fast doesn't make it evil.

Actually, I can look at most every eminem songs and not find anything about sex (OMG! A rap and hip-hop first!)

To the point. I like most music now. If I had to pick one I didn't like the most, it'd be Pop. Every female singer a sick bastard showing off as much skin as leaglly possibe, and beyond. ;)

And maybe heavy metal, I might wanna still be able to hear when I'm 35
