Well, do you feel this is right or wrong? If you don't know what it is, Doctor - Assisted Suicide is when doctors are able to (legaly) give patients with no chance of survival an overdose to put them out of their misery.

Only as a very last resort. If there's absolutely no way to cure them and their life from then on is suffering.

Actually, giving the patient an overdose is called "active euthanasia".Assisted suicide,on the other hand, is where the doctor provides the patient with the means of killing themselves so that technically,it's not the doctor that does the killing.Passive euthanasia is where the doctor doesn't do anything to help the patient and lets them die.Of all these different types, active euthanasia is the most controversial.

I believe that if it's 100% certain that the patient is going to die and there's no cure AND if the patient has given his/her consent(or their familly if the patient is incapable of giving consent),then it's OK for the doctor to terminate someone's life.If someone's going to die anyway, then they might as well die peacefully instead of in pain.Plus it frees up a hospital bed for other patients.

People against euthanasia are against it on the grounds that we should value life, not destroy it,no matter what the circumstances. But if someone is suffering from a terminal illness,i don't think that life is worth living anyway. There's nothing worse than counting the number of days you have left.

I believe it's legal here.

And I'm in favor of it.

Well, I realized I didn't post my opinion on this, so I will now.

I find it to be right. Many people live for years on life support systems. Sometimes they are even in a coma, not even able to move, speak, or be awake. At that point, I say let them die. No one would really want to be like that, it's not even living. It's just being there, taking up space in the world.

First off, couldn't the Schindler (sp?) case be an example of this controversial issue?
Anyways though, as far as how I feel about it, the patient should decide. If he/she is suffering so badly and wants to die, then yes do it. Otherwise don't, though personally if I were suffering so badly, no matter how hard it'd be I'd probably end up asking the doctors to go on and let me die; simply because I wouldn't be able to deal with the pain for much longer. Don't get me wrong; I'd miss my family, husband, and everyone else....but living, I believe, wasn't meant for people to constantly suffer. So why live and suffer? I see no point in it. *looks up reviewing post* I think I covered everything.

The BIGGEST case of this manner, involved a Dr. Jack Kevorkian whom used a higher dose of something with potassium to attack the nerves, and cease the patient from living. It was the earliest form of Dr. Assisted Suicide, morally it was incorrect... to some extent. However, he had proved his points valid, until he had actually performed the operation on someone HIMSELF, which can be sparked as murder... as he was tried for it as well in that same way.

I find it simple... but at the same time, a pain in the ass to go by. Because, even if you are suffering, you are going to die anyway, why make it faster? I mean, they would normally just put you on the magic plant, and you would feel better... as is what they normally do.

And if you are just suffering, they normally WILL NOT perform an assisted suicide. However, if you have been in a coma for about... 6 or more months, THEN they will leave it up to the person's will, their lawyer, and their family to decide.

A person should decide their own fate, and as long as it's not overly complicated and expensive then sure....

Well Terri Schavio or whatever her name is died, which is nice. I'm sick of the bull**** about it on the news and all the prolife wingnuts trying to use it as an example. I'm in favour of assisted suicide, I would never want to be braindead.

Agreed
I don't define life as lying motionless in bed for 15 years, it's about time her suffering was put to rest
