human cloning

discuss

good or bad.

I say bad.The world is already overpopulated as it is.

And it'll be really bad if i got cloned and that "person" does all sorts of things in my name.

Obviously good, with cloning we could get rid of all genetic defects over time and create a race of perfect Humans. Not to mention we could create a balanced world. One group of people will be in the military because they are built to be soldiers. Another run the country because through cloning and genetic adjustments they're all brilliant, and so on.

hmm.... i think it may be beneficial to the population. if we figured out how to transfer memories and stuff into other people, we could clone ourselved before we die and transfer our memories & stuff to the other body, making us live on through that person (or if we could transfer our consciousness into them). this could be a way to live on for an eternity... kinda like Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex where people turn into cyborgs to live on forever... kinda like that... hm. i believe it's a good thing...

Actually that's a good idea DMROOLZ.I never considered that.

But i'm not too sure about what Yamiharrison said.Makes sense but what are us real humans left to do.We'll be redundant if we let these cloned people do everything. And by creating humans for specific jobs, they're like robots then aren't they?Programmed to do whatever the creator wants them to do.

it actually makes a whole lot of sense. just taking hte best soldier ever (some scientists believe that being a good soldier is genetic) and cloning him, training him, etc. to make hundreds of thousands of elite soldiers just for that purpose... but it's inhumane to do that.. force people into fighting just because they are clones.... not a good idea. they'd revolt...

But if all the clones look the same how do you distinguish between the real guy and the fakes? It won't be fair on the real guy if these fakes go and murder ppl and then pretend it was him.=/ (i'm refering to clones in everyday life, not clones designed for war)

If you could eventually take the free will out of the clones that the soldier idea would work. But doesnt that seem a little like Star Wars?

EDIT: KF2: The would have to be tatooed at birth with a specific number or bar code or something, that way they could be identified.

^ yeah, if the soldier thing worked they'd have #'s or a bar code like X said. but there's no way to get rid of free will without getting rid of imagination and all that good stuff. it's hard. you'd have to do brain surgery or somthing. or you could alter the growing fetus so they had no free will- or something like that.

tattoos can easily be removed.Even if there was a law saying cloned people can't remove tattoos, they'll probably still find a way of doing it illegally.

I thought the whole point of humans is that they can think for themselves. That's what distinguishes us from animals right? If you remove free will from clones then they aren't exactly "humans" anymore are they?

they're weapons of war.

Um, kaibafan and DM, you guys are getting a little too sci-fi ._.

Your clone (in theory), would only kill someone if that's somthing you yourself would do, because the point is for them to pretty much be you.

Anyway, yes, cloning is a good thing. It could cause society to never forget the mistakes it made, thus every generation of clones would improve greatly.

i assumed that if clones had any brains at all they would soon figure out they want a life of their own rather than try to imitate me,my thoughts and my personality.

And what do you mean sci-fi?100 years ago,if you mentioned clones ppl would tell you to stop speaking about nonsense and that it's all sci-fiction.And yet we're talking about it now aren't we?Nothing seems impossible anymore. That's a scary thought actually.Creating a new breed of humans to take over ourselves>_<

Yes, cloning is good. For medical reasons.

Through isolating specific genomes (or whatever they are called) we can make each clone better than the orignal. Eventually, we could make it so that once a person is close to death their brain is transfered into the body of a clone. That way people could live for near forever.

Also, certain blood and flesh transplants would become much easier as all doctors would have to do is harvest body parts from a clone. Through cloning all our problems, not just military could be solved.

There is one problem though, Bush would be able to clone himself and continue his tyrannical regime.

Don't give him ideas!

And yes, the good genomes could be the only ones cloned, which would in theory make a perfect society over time.

I have mixed thoughts. All though I have no problem with cloning, I do feel it is wrong what many of you are saying. Cloning should NOT be used to create soldiers or make yourself "live forever" by passing on memories. And with the medical thoughts, unless absolutely no harm came to the cloned baby (or fetus), it is absolutely wrong. It would be like growing children to harvest what we want from them. I really can't think of a good reason for cloning...

well What you all Seem to forget that When you clone things, You also loose and Devlop Problems.. Meaning.. =] That Defects Will arise..
